Lalita Udpa, Ph.D. and Anish Poudel, Ph.D. will be featured speakers at the Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation Techniques Workshop.

ASNT Fellow Lalita Udpa, Ph.D, will be a keynote speaker during the Electromagnetic Nondestructive Evaluation Techniques Workshop on 6–7 April 2021. ASNT Board member Anish Poudel, Ph.D., will also present a session titled “ASNT and Emerging NDE Technologies.”

The two-day virtual workshop is presented by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Center for Advanced Signal and Image Sciences (CASIS) in collaboration with ASNT. It will examine a variety of current opportunities and challenges for electromagnetic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods from quasistatic measurements to terahertz frequencies. The forum is intended to enable a productive exchange of ideas on state-of-the-art technologies and recent developments in electromagnetic NDE sensors, signal processing, inverse problems, and uncertainty quantification applied to emerging application spaces.

Udpa’s presentation, “Overview of Electromagnetic NDE for Metals and Composites,” will cover examples of contributions made in advancing the use of low-frequency electromagnetic NDE sensors to inspect nonferromagnetic and ferromagnetic materials as well as composite materials. Udpa is a University Distinguished Professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan State University. She is also a Fellow of IEEE and the Indian Society of Nondestructive Testing.

In his session, Poudel will provide a brief overview of ASNT and its structure, and introduce the ASNT Research and Engineering councils, highlighting the mission and vision of these councils. In addition to serving on the Board, Poudel is chair of the ASNT Research Council and has served in various leadership roles within the Society. At the Transportation Technology Center Inc. he is principal investigator for NDE within the Research and Development department.
