In this episode of Chat NDT with ASNT, host Debbie Segor, CAE, spoke with Paul Lang, Executive Director of ASNT Certification Services LLC, and Prakash Gokulanandam, Director & General Manager of ASNT India Pvt. Ltd., known as ASNT India.
The three discussed the newly established ASNT India, a subsidiary for-profit corporation that will conduct business operations in India and serve interests in Asia and the Middle East. Located in Chennai in Tamil Nadu, the new facility will enable ASNT to expand and improve its certification portfolio and increase global NDT research and scholarship activities.

.
The group also discussed why India was chosen for the facility. As Paul explained, the move aligns with ASNT’s Strategic Plan Pillar #5: Implement a regional growth strategy. ASNT’s market research led the Society to India as the first location for expanding and sustaining regional growth. The prevalence of NDT-related industries, especially oil and gas, made Chennai the right location for this expansion.
As a subsidiary of ASNT, ASNT India will operate independently with Prakash as manager.
“Prakash is a great ASNT professional. He has businesses in India. He is heavily with the ASNT India section […] Prakash came to the top as one of our top candidates,” Paul said.

During the discussion, Prakash elaborated on the services that will be offered by ASNT India, including ASNT 9712 training and examination, ASNT NDT Level III prep courses and computer-based testing, and workshops, seminars, and conferences.
“ASNT 9712 has created a buzz in the industry,” Prakash said. “It is useful for the candidates and the employers who are sending their employees for the course, because the training and examination will be directly controlled and conducted by ASNT. They’ll have the opportunity to do the course in the world class facility run by ASNT India.”
